Should you get a home inspection?

When you're looking into buying a home, one thing you want to do is get a home inspection. While you aren't required by law to have an inspection performed, it's one of the best things you can do to protect yourself. If you buy a home without an inspection, there could be any number of things wrong with the property that you don't know about until it's too late.

For buyers, a home inspection gives them a chance to back out if the problems are too major to make the purchase wise. Likewise, it gives them a chance to renegotiate if there is something wrong with the property.

Sellers like inspections too. An inspection gives them information about problems with their home and gives them time to make repairs. It provides transparency as well, and a pre-inspection report makes it easier for buyers to trust the seller.

If you plan to purchase a property, it's a good idea to ask if the seller has a pre-inspection report that you can review. If not, then it's in your best interests to make an offer on the condition that you can have an inspection performed. That way, you protect yourself if anything is wrong with the property.

Learning more about a property is a main reason to consider an inspection. With a good inspection, you'll know the kind of upkeep the property needs as well as any problems it has had in the past. This is important information to have if you plan to sign a contract for purchase for this home.
